It’s a new year and time for a new blog post. I made it through the holidays, and life in Baghdad goes on. I started dating someone new over the holidays, and had a great New Years. Having someone to kiss when the new year starts is a wonderful thing! He’s a huge soccer fan, and so I’ve been learning more about the game, and watching a LOT more of it. In return, I started teaching him about football and the little I know about hockey. I don’t think I’ve won him over to either of these sports, but he seem interested to learn more. He also plays on one of the embassy teams, and so I watch the games here as well. They yell “Sawa sawa!” a lot – which means okay in Swahili. They also yell his name a lot – he’s a defender. I’ve googled soccer rules so that I have a little more knowledge. I’ve watched more soccer in the last few weeks than I probably have the rest of my life! 🙂
The last month has found me roving in a few different sections, and soon I’ll be heading back up to Kirkuk to fill in there. After that, time for vacation!! This time I’ll be heading to Sharm el-Sheikh! I’m looking forward to relaxing on the beach and seeing the sights. I’ve never been there, but it sounds fantastic! There will be pictures to follow, of course. Stay tuned!
